David Ruark

After spending ten years on the mission field in Wales, the Lord called my wife and I back home to Texas for a time of rest and to be with our family again. During this furlough, the Lord gently closed the door to overseas missions and called us back into the pastorate.  Over a period of about ten months, praying about where to pastor, the Lord led us to Christ Chapel.  We serve an amazing God who plants us right where He wants us to serve Him and the community.  We are so blessed to be here and we have peace knowing that we are in His will.  I invite you to come visit our church and experience the love this congregation has for our Lord.

My passion for music brings me closer to the Lord. The Gift of Music which He has given me, allows me to lead others down the path he sets before us.

Ed Barnhart

From my teen years I studied extensively and developed what I considered to be a rather firm understanding of the historical and factual content of Christianity. Still, I could not intellectually accept some of the tenets.

April 28, 2008, my wife Rachel called my attention to Romans 10:9-10: " If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I realized the heart can believe what the head cannot understand. Finally, at the age of 68, the connection between my head and heart was made and the relationship between myself and Jesus was established. I was baptized again as an adult on Easter morning, 2011. I am forever thankful God chose me to be a part of His family, and I appreciate the opportunity to fellowship and worship with fellow believers and followers at Christ Chapel.

Like other members of Christ Chapel, Ed and I are full-time RVers. We sold our home in Wenatchee, Washington, in 2004, and traveled throughout the United States and into Mexico. While in San Diego I began to teach myself to play the piano. In 2009 we considered the places we enjoyed most, one where we could live year-round. Our top choice was the Texas Hill Country.

We attended churches all across the U.S.A. We previously attended a church in Kerrville as we passed through. Our intention was to be involved there, once we arrived in Texas. However a week after arriving at our new RV lot, just outside Medina in early 2010, neighbors there, who attended Christ Chapel of Bandera, invited us to attend. We did, and knew immediately we were where God led us.

Ed was singing in the choir and one evening after rehearsal I sat at the piano to play “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.” Kerry noticed and asked me to play the offertory the next Sunday. I was also invited to take the keyboard home for a bit of practice. I have been playing keyboard with the Praise Team ever since, one exception is when we are on an RV trip. I believe we are where God would have us “for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14)

The Lord has ministered and spoken to me with music all my life. As a child, I had a gifted and wonderful Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Noma Curtis, who was also our choir leader. God's love was poured out through her singing and teaching, and blessed my childhood. Prayer and worship music plus Godly teachers comforted, inspired, and shaped my life. I feel God's presence, blessing, and pleasure most strongly in prayer and in playing and singing for His glory. Psalm 150:1-6, To me, music is a wee bit of heaven on earth.

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples,

He said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks,

He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;for this is My blood of the covenant,

Which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

Mathew 26:26-28
